SONGS OF WONDER & EXPERIENCE

With decades of experience as acoustic artists, Dave Panting

and Dan Rubin have the skills they need as multi-instrumentalists

to create new songs that combine folk, blues and world music.

Drawing on Dan’s training in classical music and Dave’s roots

in Newfoundland folk rock, the two musicians have been

exploring new dimensions of sound.  Both are experienced producers, and studio musicians with multiple albums to their credit.

In performance they enchant audiences with their original songs

supported by moving personal stories and brilliant musicianship.

Dave’s playing provides perfect ground for Dan’s improvisation,

and when the two get flying, the result can be stunning.

Their goal is to capture attentive audiences in acoustic venues

that range from house concerts to festival stages.

In the studio, the two are a powerhouse team, experienced

co-producers who combinine their unique musical styles,

to create fabrics of sound that are fresh and compelling.

The studio experience is an extension of live performance,

with the added ability to work with a broader range of instruments.

Their first CD, TANGLECOVE: 40 New Canadian Fiddle Tunes, a groundbreaking collection of original instrumental pieces,

was released as a book (sold nationally by Long and McQuade)

and distributed to NL schools as a provincial learning resource.

That CD was nominated for Best Instrumental Album of the Year

at the 2013 MusicNL awards.

Their second CD, a collection of thirteen original songs, explores themes that range from life on the road to climate change.

Beyond the far horizons are lands we’ve never seen;

We’re sailing back to where we’ve never been.

With help from engineer and producer Geoff Panting (Sheilagh’s

Brush/Rawlins Cross) playing accordion and keyboards, and

supported by percussionists Andrew McCarthy, Elliot Dicks &

Simon Miminis, with tracks by harmonica wizard Mike Stevens,

thirteen new songs emerged as unique landscapes of sound.

In April 2015 they toured Western Canada with stops in Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary, then returned to their home province for the June release of  FACING THE FLAME plus   performances in St. John's and a mini-tour of Newfoundland.

A third live album HOME ROOTS: TANGLECOVE ON TOUR was recorded during the 2015 cross-Canada Tour and released in 2017 before Tanglecove headed to Ontario for another regional tour.
